Cyprus and Oman are to cooperate on higher education issues, it was announced on Tuesday following a meeting between the Minister of Higher Education of Oman Dr Rawya Saud Al Busaidi and Cypriot Education Minister Costas Kadis in Nicosia.
Speaking to the press after the meeting, Kadis said that the two ministers had discussed various issues of mutual interest, and in particular how the two countries could develop cooperation in the field of higher education.
“`We have already formed a cooperation agreement on these issues which will be signed very soon,” Kadis said.
He said the government wished to develop relationships with countries such as Oman in order to attract students, to exchange scientific personnel and students and to conduct joint research projects.
The Omani Minister said she was happy to visit Cyprus and she expressed her gratitude for the warm welcome and generous hospitality she received.
She said that she looked forward to further recognition of Cypriot universities, both public and private, with the view towards listing Cyprus as scholarship destination for Omani students.
She thanked the private universities for offering a number of scholarships, pointing out that this would encourage and give incentive to Omani students.
Dr Al Busaidi also extended an invitation to Cypriot Minister to visit Oman later on this year. (CNA)
