Cyprus ranked 3rd in the Games of the Small States of Europe (GSSE) that took place in Iceland, June 1-6.
Cyprus secured during the last day of the games 3 gold, 6 silver and 2 bronze medals. It has won a total of 52 medal at the games (20 gold, 16 silver and 16 bronze). Iceland ranked first and Luxembourg second.
Out of the 52 medals won by Cyprus, 26 were secured in track and field.
Cyprus’ final day gold rush was won by Panagiotis Volou (triple jump), Vasilis Konstantinou (high jump) and the Cyprus 4x100m men’s relay team.
The six silver medals were won by Paisios Demetriades (200m), Marilena Sofocleous (5,000m), Eleftheria Christofi (triple jump), the Cyprus 4x100m women’s relay team and the Cyprus 4x100m men and women’s relay team.
The bronze medals were won by Vladimir Knezevic and Demetris Apostolou in the men’s beach volley event and table tennis athlete Marios Yiangou.
