Man claims he was beaten and robbed by compatriot taxi driver

A 51-year-old man said he was beaten up by 41-year-old taxi driver on Friday and was later hospitalised at Larnaca General, police said.

The 51-year-old suffered a head injury and a broken nose

According to police, the victim was sitting on the pavement on Makarios Avenue in Larnaca when the taxi driver pulled in front of him, got out and started beating him up. The 51-year-old claimed that the taxi driver also took a €100 note he carried around in a waist pouch.

Police said that the two men, both Georgian Greeks, knew each other before the incident.

The taxi driver was later arrested.
