Two killed in road accidents on Sunday

Two people died inside 12 hours on Sunday on the same road in Larnaca in traffic-related incidents.

Vasiliki Nicolaidou, 71, was hit by a car as she crossed the Dhekelia – Larnaca road near the fire station at about 10.45pm.

The woman was pronounced dead on arrival at Larnaca hospital.

The driver, a 19-year-old soldier from Avgorou was arrested. A breathalyser test came up negative.

Earlier Sunday, 37-year-old Michalis Demetriou died after crashing into the pedestrian crossing lights at 7.50am.

Demetriou was trapped in his car and had to be freed by the fire service. He was taken to Larnaca General Hospital where he was pronounced dead on arrival.
