Elderly man killed in road accident

A 90-year-old man was killed in Limassol on Thursday morning after he was hit by a car while crossing the street with his wife who was injured.

The incident happened at 7am near the roundabout on Makarios Avenue. The woman, 24, driving the car, was exiting the roundabout when she hit the elderly couple.

They were rushed to hospital where the man died two hours later. His wife’s condition was not life threatening.

Police said there is an underground pedestrian crossing at the location, which the couple chose not to use.

Preliminary investigation of the incident showed that the driver was not going fast as there was heavy traffic in the area at the time.
