Participants gear up for solar car race

Preparations for the solar car parade on Saturday in Nicosia, aimed to gear the public interest for the annual race on Sunday at 10am.

This year the race has 10 participating teams, half of which are high-school teenagers.

On Saturday the cars went down Ledras and Onasagorou streets and going back to the town hall in time for a free concert starring starring popular singer Katerina Stikoudi and others.

On Sunday, the cars will race down Spyrou Kyprianou, Stasikratous, Queen Frederica, Grivas Dighenis and Demosthenes Severis starting at 10am followed by a prize-giving ceremony at the town hall at 2pm that will include cultural events and “surprises”.

This will be followed by an exhibition of the cars in the courtyard of the town hall.
