The search and Rescue (SAR) exercise NEMESIS 2015 ended on Wednesday with the participation of personnel from Cyprus, Greece, Israel and the US.

The exercise, involving air and naval units, seeks to develop effective cooperation between the Joint Rescue Coordination Center (JRCC) Larnaca and neighbouring states in responding to emergency situations on ships and oil rigs as well as other humanitarian operations in the Eastern Mediterranean.

The first phase last month entailed a tabletop exercise involving counter terrorist attacks on ships and oil rigs, SAR operations, and sea pollution inside the island’s Exclusive Economic Zone (EEZ) and the wider region.
