District post offices expand into citizens’ services

THE postal services’ district offices in Nicosia, Limassol, Larnaca and Paphos are now also providing services to the public, Communications Minister Marios Demetriades said yesterday.

The upgrade is part of the ministry’s policy to provide better public services to citizens and businesses.

“The network of the Cyprus Post is easily accessible to all citizens, both in urban and rural areas. In addition to the postal service, they will also be able to receive other public services,” Demetriades said.

At the moment the four postal offices will assist with services provided by the labour, finance, and health ministries, and the department of road transport.

As of September 14, the centres will also be able to issue the new driver’s licences and also provide services currently provided by district offices and the civil registry and migration department.

“We expect that together with the operation of the four citizens’ service centres, the overall level of public service will be greatly improved,” Demetriades said.

The ministry, he said, was contemplating expanding the service network in other post offices within 2016, mainly in rural areas, as a way of improving economic growth and social cohesion.
