CVAR/ Severis Foundation in Nicosia isn’t showing an signs of slowing down as the summer heat-wave is, very much so, starting to hit our shores.
The foundation is known for its courtyard where, tomorrow it will host a screening of the documentary Cemetography by Nicolas Iordanou and Sylvia Nicolaides.
With the tag line ‘a story about an art form that remained unknown to the world… until now!’ the documentary intrigues and makes us what to be let into the secret. It follows a three-year journey taken by artist Costas Economou while he made his latest works using cementography.
The art form was firstly introduced by Cypriot artist Christoforos Savva in the 1960s and is continued to be used to day by 90-year-old Economou, who also gave the form its name.
Even though many works of this kind decorate several public and domestic spaces all over the island, we knew very little about the existence of this form of art.
The documentary gave young artists the chance to be involved with this technique, and be the next generation to continue the story of cementography.
Screening of the documentary by Nicolas Iordanou and Sylvia Nicolaides. July 14. CVAR, Nicosia. 8.30pm. Tel: 22-300999
