Stolen cars being sold as used vehicles on the market

The road transport department warned on Tuesday that stolen cars were being sold on the market as used vehicles either with the chassis number changed, or with forged documentation.

“These vehicles, the majority of which are luxury vehicles, will not be accepted for registration in the registrar of motor vehicles even if taxes, fees or duties have been paid,” the department said.

“Therefore the public is advised that if they intend to buy a used vehicle, they must carry out the necessary checks and actions as to authentication and comparative sales price.”
