The Judge won’t budge

By Andria Kades

As if all the events in Ayia Napa this summer weren’t enough, sit down because DJ Judge Jules is here for a mind blowing pool party. Don’t sit down – get up, rave and dance until your feet can’t carry you any more because this Thursday, Judge Jules is set to take to the decks and unleash his party tunes for a 90-minute set at Pambos Napa Rocks Hotel.

Expect to hear him road testing his new tracks, drop his infamous mash up of classic anthems and give you that perfect poolside playlist. He won’t be here for long as he’ll be heading to Ibiza the very next day for his 15th season of the legendary Judgement Fridays at Eden.

They do say you haven’t achieved iconic status as a DJ until you’ve established yourself in Ibiza and his Judgement Days on Fridays and Sundays have been going on for more than a decade, cementing the events’ reputation as a must-see for the 16 weeks of each summer season.

He’s been a pioneer of the electronic music scene since starting out in 1987 during his days at the London School of Economics where he was studying law and DJing at parties hence his nickname – Judge Jules.

A producer, entertainment lawyer and DJ, he’s dabbled everywhere in the music scene not only spinning the decks but writing pieces for the UK-based black music magazine Soul Underground between 1988 and 1990 under the pseudonyms Judge Jules and The Dark Knight, providing inside information on the music scene.

Boasting “a list of awards that would make the British Olympic team blush” on his Facebook page, he’s won the Best DJ Muzik Awards, the Number 1 DJ from the Mixmag readers’ poll, the Best International DJ by the Dancestar Awards and Best Radio DJ at the Smirnoff Dancestars.

He also reached number 3 in DJ Mag’s legendary Top 100 DJs poll in 2000 and has been a constant presence in the upper echelons of the poll ever since.

Jules has racked up well over three million compilation sales, with many releases reaching Platinum, Gold and Silver status and right now he wants everyone to know that “this Judge Won’t Budge”.

Phases come and go, genres are born and laid to rest in the blink of an eye, but one thing is for certain… Judge Jules is here to stay and he knows how to rock a crowd.

His first solo album Proven Worldwide was released in October 2006 and his second, Bring The Noise on Maelstrom Records, in 2009.

His brand new track ‘Turn On The Lights’ comes out on August 3 and is expected to rock dance floors worldwide.
