Pensioner killed in road accident

Iliou Demetriou, 82, was killed in a road accident on Saturday, when the vehicle in which she was travelling collided head-on with a rental car on the Saittas – Pera Pedi road.

Police reported that the rental car, driven by a 60-year old, veered into oncoming traffic and crashed head-on with the vehicle in which the 82-year-old was a passenger. The victim was being driven by a domestic worker from Sri Lanka aged 23. Other passengers were the woman’s 86-year old husband and a 5-year-old boy.

Demetriou was taken to Limassol General Hospital, where she was pronounced dead.  The other people involved in the accident were taken to Limassol General Hospital.

The deceased pensioner’s husband suffered multiple fractures and he is in critical condition. The young boy sustained a head injury but his condition is not life threatening. The 23-year-old driver was kept in for observation.

The driver of the other car and his female passenger, 28, were treated at First Aid and discharged. He was questioned by police.
