New talent in town

By Maria Gregoriou

What are you up to tomorrow night? How about a tall, cold glass of a beer of your liking and a live performance by two musicians whose talents gel while one strums the guitar and they both hit the harmonies right on the right mark.

This is what is in store at City Pride in Nicosia when Savvas Gregoriou and Alicia Panayiotou will give a live performance of covered Greek songs. Music will kick-off at 10pm.

On guitar and vocals, Gregoriou – who has recently graduated with a degree in Popular Music from the University of Huddersfield will be joined on vocals by Panayiotou.

Gregoriou has been studying the guitar since he was eight-years-old and continued with voice and musical theory lessons later on. He has also taken part in live reality television music competitions in Cyprus. The first was Get On Stage in 2009 and then Performance in 2010.

Panayiotou has had piano, guitar, saxophone and vocal lessons and is a well-known vocal presence in bars and taverns around Nicosia.

If you like Entexno – or alternative music – then your night is set. Get ready to hear covers from Yiannis Kotsiras, Alkinoos Ioannidis, Haris Alexiou and other Greek singers that top the charts.

It may say Greek Live in the title but the pair are also planning so sneak a few English hits in there too.
