A 39-year-old man has been arrested in Paphos and remanded for three days on suspicion of illegal possession and trafficking of child pornography.

The arrest was made after police received information from EUROPOL.

Swiss authorities and EUROPOL, during an operation aiming to fight the growing phenomenon, uncovered the identity of the 39-year-old from Cyprus.

After a follow-up investigation by the Cyber Crime Unit, the court issued an arrest warrant. The man was arrested at his house.

In his home, police said they found two computers and one cell phone, which were taken for further examination.

Paphos court issued a three-day remand for the 39-year-old while police investigations into allegations against him are being conducted.

In 2013, he said, there were 23 similar cases, in 2014 over 100 and so far this year 102, according to police statistics.
