Man arrested on suspicion of abusing dog

A 24-year-old man was arrested on Thursday for allegedly abusing a dog last month at the municipal market in Nicosia.

The man was reported by a woman who claimed she saw him on July 1 banging a dog with force against a metallic container at the parking lot near the OCHI roundabout in Nicosia, where the weekly municipal open-air market takes place.

Police said that officers went on site right after the report but that the man had left.

An arrest warrant was issued, police said, after the suspect ignored repeated requests to present himself for questioning.

Following his arrest, the man denied any involvement with the incident, police said.

Paphos Gate police station is still investigating.
