Arrested for theft of valuables worth €100,000 (Updated)

LIMASSOL police on Wednesday arrested a 25-year-old man are were seeking a second suspect, 26, in connection with the theft of briefcase containing valuables and cash worth €115,000.

The briefcase was stolen after smashing the back window of a car in Lofou belonging to a jewellery shop owner.

The 70-year-old jeweller had gone to meet a prospective tenant for a property of hers and left the briefcase, containing valuables worth €100,000 plus €15,000 in cash, in the car.

When she returned to the vehicle after her meeting, she noticed the briefcase was gone and notified the police who suspect the thieves knew she had a habit of carrying the valuables around with her.

Police said they arrested the man whom they believe was with the prospective tenant. He was seen arriving in a car with the other suspect.

The 25-year-old is suspected of being the person who smashed the rear left window of the woman’s car and took the briefcase.
