Reduced number of accidents over holiday weekend

Road accidents over the holiday weekend were minimal, with the majority of police reports involving speeding, drink driving and not wearing seatbelts or helmets.

According to traffic police chief Yiannakis Charalambous “there were reports but far fewer compared to other times” while police will be busy until next weekend when high numbers of vacationers in the mountains or near the sea will be returning to their homes.

Pleased with the result, he said there had been minor accidents but not too many. Police’s priority is making sure drivers get to their destinations safely, ensuring safety in the streets and traffic control he said.

Other reports included vehicles without drivers’ licenses.
