Repentant drunk thief hands back stash

A 29-year-old man stole cash, a mobile phone and an identity card from a couple sleeping in their car outside a petrol station in Paralimni, only to return the items by lunchtime saying he had been drunk.

According to a police report filed by two people, aged 26 who live in Nicosia, on Sunday at around 6:30am while they were sleeping in their car with the windows open a stranger stole a small bag from the car that had €150, an identity card and a mobile phone in it.

Later on in the day, at about 3pm the 29-year-old went to Paralimni police station and handed back the bag with everything intact admitting the theft and apologising.

He told police he was drunk and following a police search in his Paralimni home, they found nothing illegal, charged and released him.
