Joint exercise with the French navy

A joint Search and Rescue (SAR) Daylight Exercise, titled “CYPFRA-03/15”, was conducted on Monday off to the south-east coast with the participation of SAR Units and Personnel from the Republic of Cyprus and the French Navy.

According to an official press release, the French warship and the SAR Helicopters of the Republic (Cyprus Police Aviation Unit) took part in the Aeronautical SAR Exercise under the operational control and full coordination of the Joint Rescue Coordination Center (JRCC) Larnaca.

The scenario dealt with a simulated “Maritime Accident” in which the Cyprus National SAR Plan “NEARCHOS”, was immediately implemented by the JRCC Larnaca in order to confront the situation, executing air medical evacuation operation from the French Frigate and search operations in order to locate and save missing crew member in the water.
