Baghdatis beaten at Winston-Salem Open

Cyprus star Marcos Baghdatis was a long way from his best in the defeat

Marcos Baghdatis has been beaten in the round of 32 at the Winston-Salem Open, going down in three sets to French qualifier Pierre-Hugues Herbert.

Making his third trip to the hard-court stop in the Emirates Airline US Open Series, Cyprus star Baghdatis lost 6-3, 2-6, 7-5.

The ATP World Tour 250 event, which is held on the campus of Wake Forest University in Winston-Salem, North Carolina, is the last tournament before the US Open. Baghdatis reached the quarter-finals in 2011, his best result.

Baghdatis was in confident mood heading into the tournament, having coming off a run to the final in Atlanta – his 12th on the ATP World Tour.
Despite falling to John Isner in the final, he had reeled off impressive wins over seeds Vasek Pospisil and Gilles Muller
