Counting money in public led to woman’s arrest

A 62-year-old woman has been arrested in Ayia Napa after she was found with a handbag containing some €3,500.

Police were tipped-off that the woman was behaving suspiciously at a beach and seen counting money she had in a bag. Officers at the scene found she had €3574.16 in different currencies and coins.

She would not provide sufficient answers as to how she obtained the money and was arrested, police said. They took her to Ayia Napa police station where she was questioned.
