A fire that has been raging since Wednesday morning in the area between the villages of Gerasa and Paramytha in Limassol has been put under partial control, the fire service said.
The aircraft that were deployed in the area have withdrawn due to the darkness but ground forces continued the effort, made difficult by the rough terrain in the area.
The fire burned around one square kilometre of trees and wild shrub. There are no houses in the area.
The blaze was mainly fought by six water-dropping aircraft because the terrain made it hard for ground forces to approach.
Crews had tried to open access to the area using excavators.
