Soldier killed in traffic accident

A 19-year-old conscript was killed in Limassol on Thursday morning after he crashed in his car on his way home from a night out to celebrate his birthday.

Police said the accident happened shortly after 6am on the Limassol to Pahna road.

It was just before the exit to Pahna, his village, when Costas Konikos apparently lost control of his car, which overturned. The soldier was thrown out and was crushed under the vehicle.

He was rushed to hospital where he was pronounced dead on arrival.

Police said the 19-year-old had not been wearing a seatbelt and it appeared that he was speeding.
