The Ceremonial Start and Finish of this year’s CNP ASFALISTIKI Cyprus Rally will be hosted in Larnaca.
Preparations are well underway for this year’s event. The Rally will take place from September 25-27 and will, once again, be based in Nicosia (Service Park, Headquarters, Press Office).
It will continue the tradition of hosting two FIA regional championship rounds, the eighth round of the European Rally Championship as well as the fifth round of the Middle-East Rally Championship which constitutes the Cyprus Rally as unique.
The Mayor of Larnaca, Andreas Louroutziatis, reflected on the news by saying: “It is with great joy that the Larnaca Municipality hosts the Ceremonial Start and Finish of this year’s CNP ASFALISTIKI Cyprus Rally. The coming together of the Municipality and the Cyprus Automobile Association is fantastic, and the hosting of the Start and Finish is a great opportunity, to not only promote motorsport and our island but also to send messages regarding road safety and driver responsibility”.
Louroutziatis added: “The event also sheds light on the beauty of Larnaca and Cyprus as tourist destinations. The city of Larnaca welcomes sports tourism as well, with many young teams choosing our city for practice camps. Everything we do is aimed towards the improvement of the product of tourism here. We invest in our city so that the future can bring fruition of all the work that is currently being done and the hosting of such sporting events, like the Rally, are a great example of this.
“Maintaining cultural integrity through sports in this difficult economic climate is of utmost importance”.
The President of the Cyprus Automobile Association, Antonis Michaelidis, said of the event “This is a great step, specifically for projecting the Rally but also Cyprus in general. With Larnaca set to host the Ceremonial Start and Finish, the millions of Eurosport viewers around the world will have the opportunity to marvel at the majestic Finikoudes Avenue as well as the sea, just a few footsteps away.
“The Organising Committee and I would like to extend our gratitude to the Mayor and the Municipal Council of Larnaca for supporting the greatest sporting event of the island of Cyprus”.
