Three arrested after fracas with policeman in Paphos

Three people were arrested early on Thursday in connection with an attack on a policeman in Paphos.

At about 1:30am, a patrol spotted a 19-year-old for whom there was an outstanding arrest warrant for driving offences.

When the officer went to remind him, the man responded by swearing, police said.

Told he was under arrest, the man reportedly tried to escape and kicked the policeman in the stomach. Two women aged 24 and 16 who were with the 19-year-old went to his assistance and also began swearing and hitting the officer, according to police.

Another off duty policeman was made aware of the situation and helped his colleague arrest the 19-year-old.  The policeman who was attacked was taken to hospital where he received first aid for cuts and abrasions.

The two women were also arrested for questioning.
