Domestic worker arrested for theft

A female domestic worker was on Friday remanded in custody for seven days in connection with the theft of thousands in cash and valuables from a 90-year-old Larnaca woman suffering from Alzheimer’s.

The 30-year-old woman was arrested on Thursday after she was reported to police for abandoning the home in Maroni where she worked in. Police were told the suspect left on Tuesday.

Police were told that a number of valuables were also missing from the house.

The suspect was located in Zygi. In her possession, police found jewellery, and around €825 in cash.

It was determined that in the past two years, the 90-year-old, accompanied by the suspect, had withdrawn €40,000 from her account.

In the suspect’s possession, police also found receipts for cash transfers abroad worth €30,000.
