President’s briefing  to parliament postponed

President Nicos Anastasiades’ planned briefing to the House of Representatives on the Cyprus talks, which was to take place behind closed doors next week has been postponed until the president returns from New York where he is to address the UN General Assembly, the palace announced on Wednesday.

According to the official announcement, the September 15 briefing was pushed back due to Anastasiades’ heavy schedule ahead of the New York trip.

“The briefing of Parliament by the President of the Republic will be scheduled immediately after returning from New York,” the announcement said.

Anastasiades briefed the party leaders on Tuesday but the more hardline ones claimed afterwards that he was keeping them in the dark on the negotiations.

He is due to meet Turkish Cypriot leader Mustafa Akinci on September 14. He departs for New York a few days later.
