Second Paphos night market to help feed the hungry

The first night market in Paphos was held in June and raised 1.500 euros for those in need

A second night market to help feed needy families in Paphos will be held on Thursday. The first event held in June was a huge success, say organisers.

The market is being organised by the Paphos Post team and around 50 stalls will sell a variety of items. Each stall holder will pay a €15 fee, €5 of which will go towards the ‘Matthew 25 feed the hungry in Paphos’ project, which is run by the Paphos Christian Fellowship International PCFI.

The event will be held on Thursday September 10 and will run from 5pm until 9pm.

Matthew 25 will also have a stall on the day, selling bric-a-brac. All proceeds will go towards feeding the hungry. Hundreds of people attended the first event and €1,500 was raised to help feed the needy in Paphos.

Organiser Judith Evans told the Cyprus Mail: “We are hoping to attract as many people as possible to the market and raise as much money as we can to donate to Matthew 25. People may also bring donations of non-perishable foodstuffs which will be distributed to the hungry.”

Stalls will offer all sorts of items including local crafts, books, vinyl records, jewellery, beauty products, home and décor, fashion, homemade cakes and pies, wines, beers, snacks and lots more. A number of local businesses will also be present and teas and coffees will be served. Tables and chairs are being provided to enable people to relax and enjoy the atmosphere said Evans.

The project has around 50 families registered with the programme and provides staple foods, dried goods and necessities such as bread, pasta, rice, cereals and tinned foods, as well as nappies and toiletries every week. Ahead of the event, the public are also able to make donations of clothes, bric-a-brac or any other items which can be sold on the ‘Matthew 25’ stall on the day.

There are still a few places left for stall holders, who should contact organisers directly.

The night market will be floodlit and will be held in the large car park adjacent to the main coastal road which runs from Paphos to Coral Bay and in front of Revival fashion store and the Paphos Post office. It’s close to hotels and tourist apartments and organisers are hoping both holidaymakers and locals will attend the event.

There will also be a dynamic street dance show by “Young Stars” and great music all evening.

“It’s really important to us to be able to help these needy families as much as we can, so we want to create a lovely evening for everyone and raise lots of money for charity at the same time. Also, as we saw last time, holding an evening market encourages more people to attend, as it’s a cooler time of day, and people can come after work and bring their families.”
