Tusk due in Cyprus late Thursday

European Council President Donald Tusk

European Council President Donald Tusk is due in Cyprus late on Thursday night on a two-day visit.

According to a draft programme, Tusk will arrive on a private aircraft from Heraklion in Crete to Larnaca airport where he will be met by Foreign Minister Ioannis Kasoulides, after which he will depart for his hotel in Nicosia.

On Friday, Tusk will meet President Nicos Anastasiades at the presidential palace after which they will make statements to the press.

Talks are expected to focus on the Cyprus issue, economy and the island’s role in the region, taking into account Anastasiades’ initiative to have the Israeli Prime Minister and the Palestinian President invited to address, on separate occasions, the European Council.

After the meeting Anastasiades will then hold a lunch in honour of the Council President.

In the afternoon Tusk will cross through the Ledra Palace for a meeting with Turkish Cypriot leader Mustafa Akinci and will leave Nicosia for the airport at 4pm for a 5pm departure.
