First-ever night time running event to take place next month

By Evie Andreou

Aglandjia municipality is inviting runners of all ages to participate in the first night-run event ever being organised in Cyprus, supported by Hellenic Bank.

The ‘Hellenic Bank Running under the Moon’ event, taking place on October 10, will host four run challenges; 5k, 10k, a 1k children’s run and a 5k group or corporate run challenge.

Part of the proceeds of the participation fees will be donated to the “Thermokoitida Agapis” association of friends of the neonatal intensive care unit.

“The aim of the Aglandjia Municipality is to make this sport festivity an institution,” said mayor Costas Cortas.

He added that the event promoted volunteerism and social contribution and that €1 from each registration and €1 from the sale of the event t-shirt, will be donated to the association.

Cortas said that during the event, the Aglandjia Youth Council will sell refreshments at very low prices and all proceeds will be given to the municipality’s food bank.

The first night-run will be a great opportunity for the socialisation of all participants, said the event’s project manager Sotiris Mavros.

The aim is to bring people into the Athalassa Park, he said, which will host an athletic, cultural, and charity event with lots of music and entertainment.

Following the challenges, there will be an after party with music, food and drinks.

“It is not about gathering to run and leave. We want everyone to join the after-party and spend a wonderful night, listen to the music, and socialise with other participants,” Mavrou said.

Registration fees are €10 for the 5k, €15 for the 10k, and €200 for the group run, up to 25 runners per team, while children run for free.

The run challenges for adults begin at 7.30pm but the children’s run will take place earlier, at 6.30pm, when there is still light so they can be better supervised, Mavros said.

Starting point of all challenges is the environment information centre at the Athalassa Park located in Kyrenia and Athalassa Avenues in Aglandjia.

For more information: . Deadline for registrations is October 7.
