Pope Francis speaks during a meeting with European Union environment ministers at the Vatican

Agriculture Minister Nicos Kouyialis, along with his EU counterparts, met Pope Francis on Wednesday in the Vatican under the umbrella of the Pontiff’s initiative on climate change, the government said.

Kouyialis expressed the commitment of the Republic of Cyprus to promote the goals set for environmental protection. The EU ministers pledged to work in solidarity reach the global agreements on climate change at the Paris Summit last December.

Kouyialis was due to travel to Brussels later on Wednesday to participate in the meeting of the Environment Council.
