274 highway violations in two days

POLICE recorded 274 traffic violations on Thursday and Friday in a clampdown on the Nicosia-Limassol highway and the old road between the two towns.

The most popular offence was ignoring road signs, with 84 violations, followed by 50 people who were not wearing a seatbelt.

Some other violations included a car that was unregistered since 2004, a vehicle speeding at 183 km/h and a truck with faulty brakes and no documents.

There were 22 speeding incidents, 21 drivers without a licence or MOT, 13 without insurance and ten using their phone while driving.  The remaining 20 were classed as ‘other’.

In 11 instances, road assistance was provided to drivers, including one that was involved a traffic accident.
