Man arrested in Pyla for attempted robbery at knifepoint (Updated)

A 22-year-old Greek Cypriot from Pyla was remanded for two days on Sunday after being arrested in connection with an alleged attempted robbery of a Turkish Cypriot pensioner in the mixed village.

The man is facing charges of attempted robbery, unlawful entry and carrying a knife.

According to the complaint made by the 70-year-old Turkish Cypriot female resident, at around 7pm on Saturday a fellow villager entered her home by the kitchen door and headed for the living room, demanding that she give him money under threat of a knife.

The woman began to shout for help, CNA reported, after which the man became startled and fled. He was however recognised by a neighbour who was on his way to the house after hearing the woman’s cries for help.

Police later detained the 22-year-old.
