A couple from Greece were remanded in custody for eight days on Saturday on suspicion of trafficking over 23 kilos of cannabis.

The 52-year-old man and his wife, 48, were arrested at Larnaca airport on Friday evening after customs officers found the drugs in their luggage. They had arrived from Athens at around 8.40pm.

The man had been stopped by customs officers who searched his suitcase and found 10 packages containing some 12.5 kilos of cannabis.

His wife managed to pass through customs but she was located around two hours later. Police said she had hid her suitcase in the airport but it was retrieved.

Inside, drug squad officers found seven packages containing around 11 kilos of cannabis.

The couple did not object to their remand. Police told the court they were trying to locate the recipients of the drugs.
