Pedestrian, 78, killed by driver, 80

A 78-year-old man was killed in Strovolos in Nicosia on Monday night while crossing the road after being hit by a car driven by an 80-year-old.

The incident happened at 8.45pm On Elias Arsalidis Street under conditions which are being investigated.

The victim was transferred to Nicosia General Hospital and was diagnosed with a fractured skull and brain haemorrhage. He was expected to undergo surgery but died at around 2.15am on Tuesday morning.

A test showed that the 80-year-old driver was not under the influence of alcohol.

Police ask anyone who might have information regarding the circumstances of the accident to contact Nicosia traffic police or the nearest police station.
