Landscape heaven

By Maria Gregoriou

On Saturday the village of Lania will welcome a solo painting exhibition by Michael Owen at 7.30pm.

The new oil and watercolour paintings by Owen include scenes of majestic lands, seascapes – in particular those of Akamas and Karpasia – and old buildings with lots and lots of character from towns and villages.

Those who view these art works will realise why Owen has made a name for himself as one of the foremost landscape painters of Cyprus.

Owen settled here in 1971 and works from his gallery in Lania, which he established two years after his move. For a change in scenery and subject matter, the artist also chooses to work from the land he owns in Akamas.

The painter has original paintings in the collections of the National Gallery of Cyprus, the Cyprus Parliament, the Presidential Palace and in private collections in 46 countries. The collectors who own his pieces all came to Owen’s gallery in Lania to personally choose their paintings.

The exhibition will continue until October 25.
