Fine after illegal tobacco found in car

A 49-year-old from Larnaca was fined €1,200 after 19 boxes of duty free tobacco and one carton of cigarettes were found in the back of his car early on Saturday morning.

Shortly past midnight, police received a tip off that the man had the material in his car. Officers found the vehicle parked on Makarios Avenue while he was in a nearby pub.

After his consent, they searched his car and found the tobacco and cigarettes he said he bought from strangers.

He was taken to the customs office, fined €1,200 and had the items confiscated.
