Number of public sector workers drops 1.1% in September

The number of workers in the public sector dropped an annual 1.1 per cent in September to 48,038 on a decrease in the number of permanent workers which offset a rise in the number of casual staffers, the statistical service said.

The number of overall permanent workers dropped 2.6 per cent in September to 36,965 compared to the respective month of 2014 while that of casual workers rose 4.2 per cent to 11,073, Cystat said in a statement on its website.
