Short films come together in Limassol

By Maria Gregoriou

As of Saturday Limassol will be hosting the fifth International Short Film Festival (ISFF) at the Rialto theatre, during which selected works by Cypriot and international filmmakers will be screened.

A mixture of short fiction, documentary, experimental and animated films will be showcased in order to offer the Cypriot audience a chance to enjoy some of the best short films from around the globe.

But it is not all about the people in-front of the screen, enjoying the short films for the first time; the festival is also a platform for communication, interaction and film education as it hosts young and acclaimed film professionals in an exchange of ideas and cinematographic creation.

The main programme is enhanced with masterclasses, thematic tributes and other events.

Along with screenings, the short films will also be in the running for prizes. There will be two main competitions. The first competition category is the national competition and includes the 12 Cypriot films to be screened. The second category is the International Competition, in which 57 international short films will compete.

The festival‘s international jury, that is made up of acclaimed film professionals, will decide upon the awards for first Prize for Best Short Film, Best Director Award, second Prize for Best Short Film, first Prize for Best National Film, second Prize for Best National Film, Best Documentary Award, and Student Jury Award for Best Music Video.

Also, three film companies, namely MS Viewpoint Ltd, Full Moon and Sklavis Film Lab, will be offering awards accompanied by production and post production services to three Cypriot films.

This year, to celebrate its five year mark, the festival is going 3D. This will be the first time, you will have the chance to enjoy short films that explore 3D in Cyprus.

The festival will give out 3D glasses inviting everyone to a unique three dimensional one hour experience. This screening will take place at Rio Cinema on Wednesday at 7p.m.
