My fair Sousou

By Maria Gregoriou

Alpha Square is known for putting on different and somewhat out of the box productions and this time around is no different.

If you were around in the 80s and you watched Greek TV then you will be very familiar with the heroine Madame Sousou – a poor woman who came into money and went from a pauper to a lady about town.

The popular comedy, written by Demetris Psathis, sees Madame Sousou leaving her run-down neighbourhood and entering a classy life style in Kolonaki.

Sousou was always a bit above her status anyway, and always thought she was a well-to-do lady. But there are also others who like money and as we all know that you can take the girl out of the slums but you can’t take the mind-set of the slums out of the girl. Sousou just doesn’t have what it takes to safe-guard her new found wealth.

Madame Sousou
Performance of the comedy based on the popular story by Dimitris Psathas. October 17 until November 8. Pallas Theatre, Nicosia. €16/12. In Greek. Tel: 70-001140

November 14. Rialto Theatre, Limassol
