Artist Elena Tsigaridou will showcase her first solo exhibition entitled Circles Made Up of Cubes at Gallery Kypriaki Gonia in Larnaca as of Wednesday.
With this exhibition Tsigaridou brings to the surface a journey of self-awareness that stimulates an ongoing internal dialogue and one with many possibilities and boundaries.
For the artist this journey has transformed decisiveness into inspiration and honesty into exploration. By exploring the vast opportunities that art provides, Tsigaridou represents honesty through the geometrical shapes, such as a circle and a cube. These shapes transform into young, nameless heroes on canvas – possibly based on individual from the artist’s own personal circle – and enjoy an existence between lines which either converge or diverge.
These childhood acts of young are what assist Tsigaridou on her journey to the past, a journey which comes full circle to the present and its reality.
Although the journey may be real, in part, the exhibition is not without a mythical element as the royal crown – which is present in some of the works – mark the journey’s starting point.
Tsigaridou studied at the School of Fine Arts in Urbino and Rome, where she graduated with distinction in 2003. Today she works as a Fine Arts teacher at the American Academy Larnaca.
Her work has been exhibited in Cyprus, Italy and Belgium.
