Paphos castle to be illuminated in pink

THIS weekend, the medieval castle of Paphos will be illuminated in pink.

The initiative, which is organised by Europa Donna Cyprus in collaboration with the Paphos municipality and the
Department of Antiquities, is in support of breast cancer awareness.

It is in addition to another event organised by Europa Donna this month under the umbrella of breast cancer awareness month. A pink silhouettes’ walk was attended by 13,000 people in Nicosia on October 10.

At the end of the walk 602 pink and four blue silhouettes were placed for the new female and male breast cancer cases diagnosed last year and 64 white for the women who lost the battle with the disease.

Europa Donna is currently raising money for the creation of a Cyprus breast centre by 2016. The effort is in line with an EU resolution which calls for member states to ensure nationwide provision of interdisciplinary breast centres by the end of next year.
