Moldovan extradition suspect granted legal aid

Paphos District Court

The Paphos district court on Tuesday granted a request for legal aid filed by a Moldovan man wanted by the United States in connection with the theft of some $3.5mln (€3.2mln).

The case was adjourned until November 5.

The man, held in Nicosia’s Central Prison, asked to be allowed to consult with four lawyers he had in mind so that he could choose the one who will represent him in the extradition hearings.

He was arrested in Paphos in August on an international arrest warrant, is wanted in the US in connection with the electronic transfer of over $3.5mln from a company to a bank in another – unspecified – country. The offences were committed between August 2012 and August this year.
