Eight day remand for suspect with suitcase full of drugs (Update)

THE 23-year-old man who was arrested in Limassol on Thursday in connection with the possession of nearly 15 kilos of cannabis, was remanded for eight days on Friday.

The suspect was arrested after he was seen by officers during a stake out loading a suitcase with 23 packages weighing a total 14.8kg of cannabis, into his car. The suitcase was located by the police earlier in the day in an open area in Limassol and had placed the area under surveillance. The 23-year-old was arrested after he was seen picking up the suitcase and loading it in his car.

When the police approached the car, the suspect tried to escape but his car collided with a patrol car. He then abandoned the vehicle and fled the scene on foot. Eventually he was arrested and the suitcase was seized as evidence.

The suspect claimed, the court heard, that he picked up the suitcase on behalf of someone else, which he didn’t name out of fear for his life.

Police searched the man’s house and said they found €13,000 in cash and four more grammes of cannabis.
