Values depicted in art

By Maria Gregoriou

The week starts off  with the opening of a solo painting exhibition by George Georgiou.

The exhibition, depicting Cyprus, is a continuation of work presented by the painter in 2009. All themes of the paintings in this and the previous exhibition are of the Cypriot landscape and local people.

Nature is also present in this collection with bold colours, steady brush strokes and the magical wonder of the blue Mediterranean sky.

In these images Georgiou attempts to depict the values of culture and traditions while also hinting at the stifling environment in which we now find ourselves – one where such values are slowly being crushed.
