ETYK accuses finance minister, coop banks of cronyism, power games

The HQ of the Co-operative Central Bank

By Stelios Orphanides

Bank workers’ union ETYK has the management of the bailed out Cooperative Central Bank (CCB) of engineering “power games” in an attempt to promote political favouritism instead of seeking to fix problems created by mistakes of the past.

“The way the previous general manager (Marios Clerides) left (his position) and the procedure of appointing his successor, the ‘fog’ surrounding his approval by the supervisory authority for four months and the firing of commissioners, are some of the recent events that spoil the cooperative’s image, raise questions and create concerns,” ETYK said on Wednesday in a statement on its website.
