Officer injured during drugs bust

A police officer was treated in hospital in Nicosia on Wednesday night after a 41-year-old man drove into him in a bid to escape arrest.

The incident happened at around 8:30pm when members of the drug squad flagged him down at the Archangelos roundabout.

The man tried to get away but in doing so he hit an officer and crashed into a police vehicle.

During the chase that ensued, he was seen throwing out three plastic bags out of the car that were later found to contain 15 grammes of cocaine, 10 grammes of cannabis and a white crystal substance.

Eventually he stopped in Ayios Dometios and arrested on the spot.

The officer received first aid and was later discharged.

Police also found that the suspect was driving without insurance.
