US Secretary of State John Kerry’s visit to Cyprus, scheduled to take place on November 14-15, has been postponed due to developments in Syria.
Government Spokesman Nikos Christodoulides told CNA that the US administration has officially informed the Cypriot government about the postponement of the visit, due to the developments in Syria.
He added that “we are in contact with the US government with a view to determine a new date for the visit, the soonest possible” which may be by the end of the year.
Asked if the change of plans have anything to do with negotiations on the Cyprus problem Christodoulides ruled it out and said the US had proposed another two alternative dates – one in November and one in December.
President Nicos Anastasiades however is expected to be abroad on those days.
“There are intentions for a visit, we are in contact through diplomatic means and we hope to reach a (a finalised date) soon.”
