Interns are leading by example

Turkish Cypriots started internships in Greek Cypriot companies earlier this month as Greek Cypriots began internships in Turkish Cypriot companies as part of a European Leading by Example programme.

Organised by the chambers of commerce of both communities, a total of 24 Cypriots will participate in the programme, 12 from each community.

Antonis Pashalides from the Cyprus Chamber of Commerce said on Tuesday that five Turkish Cypriots started work in Greek Cypriot companies while four Greek Cypriots started working in Turkish Cypriot companies on November 1.

Another four individuals from each community are set to start work soon while three Turkish Cypriots and four Greek Cypriots will start in due time.

Pashalides said the interns would be working for three consecutive months and get a €500 stipend per month, which would bear no costs to the company and employers.

The project is funded through the Civil Society in Action IV program of the European Commission Europe Aid and lasts between November 2015 and April 2016.
