Training session to keep hotel staff working over winter

As an incentive to keep hotels open during the winter months, the labour ministry will implement a training plan for hotel employees.

On Tuesday, the Cabinet authorised the Labour minister to prepare the necessary documents and to take steps towards starting an employee training plan in hotels which have closed or will close during some of the time from November 2015 to March 2016.

“The project is one of the broad measures promoted by the labour ministry to upgrade the tourist product of Cyprus,” government spokesman Victor Papadopoulos said.

“The training programme will be conducted by the hotels and during this training the hotel will pay their employee a training allowance equal to their salary. In return, the Social Insurance services will pay each hotel which implements the training programme the unemployment benefit to which employees who participate are entitled to,” he added.
